How to find your personal style

Hello everyone, and welcome back to martinamanca.com! I took time off to plan, organize, and work behind the scenes for exciting news. Make sure to subscribe to the newsletter to find out! I hope your summer was great and you're ready to kick off these last four months of 2023. I spent most of my vacation meeting some people to give them the wedding invitations. Then, I worked a lot for martinamanca.com because I wanted to go with the inspirational flow I had. Finally, I spent quality time with the people I love the most. It was a fulfilling vacation.

For the first post of September, I want to share a tutorial about how to find your personal style. Even though I'm still on the journey to find my style, I care a lot about this topic, and someone may need to hear these tips.

How to start finding your personal style

The first step on your journey to find your personal style is to open your closet. There's a reason why you bought those clothes. Open your closet to find a common theme or color palette. Pinterest and Instagram can be super inspirational. Still, if you start with yourself, your lifestyle, your dreams, and your actual closet, you'll see how much inspiration you'll find.

The second step to finding your personal style is to go through your clothes and see what makes you feel confident and the best version of yourself. If something makes you feel insecure, donate it or sell it. There's no reason to keep something that makes you feel bad.

Then, you can decide how you want to feel in your clothes and what aesthetic fits best for you.

The next step to find your personal style

After the first two steps, you have a clearer idea of what you have and want to achieve. So, it's time to find some inspiration for your style goals.

Pinterest and Instagram are great, but magazines and street style can be fantastic sources. Collect pictures and vibes, and start creating outfits accordingly. You'll be amazed to discover how much you can use your clothes differently to create new looks and aesthetics.

Check out the Outfit inspiration board on my Pinterest.

Then, you'll gradually understand what your closet is missing and what you need to buy. You're at a crucial point. List what you need to buy to achieve your style goals. Some basics are great, no matter the aesthetic you picked.

So, here are my top essential picks.

  • T-shirts: white and black

  • Turtleneck with a great fit and materials

  • Denim in a classic wash

  • Tailored pants: black, grey, and blue marine.

  • A great white shirt

  • An oversized coat: blue and black

  • A blazer

A shopping list keeps you focused on your goals and aesthetics. Once you've done this, start your research. I suggest you start from the pre-loved and vintage market. You'll find better fit, fabrics, and pieces at a fraction of the retail prices. I found so many great clothes on Vinted and at the local market.

The final step to finding your personal style

The final step of this tutorial is about just having fun. It may sound weird, but you must try different combinations, leave your comfort zone, and see what you prefer. If you struggle to find new styling options, recreate a Pinterest outfit or a look you saw and loved. Then, you'll become more confident, and you'll be able to find new looks.

I want to give you an extra tip. Take a picture of your outfit and make a lookbook. You can save your ootds in an album on your camera roll or use an app, like Whering. This app helps you categorize your closet, make a lookbook, and find new combinations.
