Why changing your closet can be therapeutic

Here we are! The time for the closet change is officially here! I've waited for this moment for a long time, and now I can do something so therapeutic to me: the closet change. Today, I want to share tips for a seamless closet change and why it is so therapeutic.

The closet change is one of the most cathartic moments of the season because you can pause, focus on yourself, and set your intentions for the upcoming season. So, if you want a pleasing experience with your seasonal closet change, please follow these tips, and I'm sure you'll love it.

From Lydia Elise Millen

Start with small things.

My secret weapon for a seamless seasonal closet change is starting with small things. So, I tackle a drawer or a clothing category at a time. Previously, I used to take out all my clothes and overwhelm myself with endless work hours. Then, I learned that focusing on one drawer or clothing category at a time made me faster and more efficient.

For example, I take out the trousers to separate those I want to donate or sell from those I want to keep. Then, I fold those I want to keep, put them away, and collect the ones I want to donate in a bag. Then, I organize the trousers for the upcoming season in my closet. And I repeat this process for every clothing category or section of my closet.

Ultimately, you'll have an organized closet and a peaceful mind.

Take your time.

My method lets you take your time to reflect on what you want to keep, sell, or donate, but also on what you need to buy for the upcoming season to complete your closet.

Take your time; you are different from last year, your taste may have changed, and your body may be diverse. You don't need to keep everything. Last year, I sold my entire closet because some clothes didn't fit me anymore, my taste changed, and my daily habits were different. So, I started almost from scratch a new closet, and now I take my time to fill my shopping list with items I know I need to have a versatile wardrobe.

Write a shopping list.

During your seasonal closet change, note what you need to buy regarding basics, staples, and accessories. It allows you to look at the bigger picture and see the different styling combinations you can create with your clothes.

For example, I knew that for fall/winter, I needed some skirts because I had lots of trousers and less feminine pieces. So, I added them to my shopping list and went on Vinted to find some gems. In a matter of days, I found two stunning skirts to elevate my closet, and I couldn't be happier. They are staples but also versatile for different outfits.

Why the seasonal closet change is so therapeutic.

While doing the seasonal closet change, I feel a sense of calm and peace. Organizing my clothes and accessories helps me organize my thoughts and feel at ease. You know what they say: if you live in an organized space, your brain and mind are clear and calm. So, even organizing your underwear drawer helps you clear your mind.

Yesterday, I did a small part of my seasonal closet change, and I let go of the tension I collected during the day. At the end of the day, I was so calm and serene that I fell asleep in a few minutes.
