Martina Goes to Puglia: a guide for a Weekend.
Hi everyone! How is your week? I just returned from another trip and wanted to share my little guide to spend a wonderful weekend in Puglia. I went there for my best friend's wedding, which was magical, and then visited some villages.
Before sharing the itinerary, here are some crucial tips to make your trip the best. You'll want to rent a small car. Trust me, even if the big car is more comfortable and fancy, the streets are some of the smallest I've ever seen. We got an SUV, and it was challenging.
Then, you'll need something warmer for the night. The humidity and the wind can make you cold.
Lastly, I booked an Airbnb in Ceglie, a strategic small town. It was perfect to drive back and forth to visit the other villages, but the Airbnb was lovely and affordable.
Okay, let's get into the things to do during your weekend in Puglia.
Day 1: Alberobello and Martina Franca
From Bari airport, pick up your car to drive to Alberobello. It's a magical village where you can stroll around a deep tradition. This place is unbelievable, and the people are incredibly kind. There are many places to eat and shop and many places to see. I recommend Trullo Sovrano, the Cathedral, and the Trullo church. In fact, Alberobello is a typical village where you can admire a traditional construction named Trullo.
After around 20 minutes of driving, you arrive at Martina Franca, a lovely Baroque village. I recommend visiting the Cathedral, which is astonishing, and getting lost in the small streets of the center. We took an aperitif in a central local, where I had a fantastic Hugo Spritz.
Day 2: Ostuni and Monopoli
On the second day, we went to Ostuni, the White Town. I love it; my heart holds Ostuni in a particular place. Stay in Ostuni a little longer because the view, the old town, and the atmosphere are unique. From some points, you can even see the sea. It's absolutely breathtaking.
Monopoli is worth it just for the main church. I didn't like the old town because it is soooooo tourist. Besides that, I enjoyed the view of the sea and the panoramic tour with the local touristic train.
Other places to visit
I didn't make it this time because of the weather, but I recommend Locorotondo and Cisternino. My best friend told me about Polignano a Mare, where there is the famous Martinucci ice cream.
