How to cope with stress when moving to a new home and town

Hi everyone! This month has been all over the place for my mental health. I poured my energy into staying grounded and taking care of my mental health, not spiraling over the stress that the move to the new house and a new town has brought to me. Since today is the last day of the month, and I'm officially in the new house, I thought I would share my tips and tricks to cope with the stress of moving to a new home and town.

Seeing your home without your things in it is confusing, mainly because it is your safe space, so you're not ready to see it empty or disorganized. In this case, my main helper was visualization. I kept visualizing the new life in the new house, how happy the new life would be, and how this challenge would pay me back.

Moving is a process where you must go with the flow because there are so many obstacles and challenges you can't preview. But you can plan and organize something. Plan the things you can control because they will be your anchors during this destabilizing time. For example, you can prepare a bag with the stuff for the first night in the new home so you don't need to unpack all the boxes. I made a travel bag with bedsheets, towels, PJs, tablecloths, and napkins. So, after moving, we can set the basics for the first night and have a lovely first night of sleep.

Be ready to make compromises. Many things will disturb you, but keep visualizing your new, happy life and telling yourself that you're doing all of this for a better life. But the most crucial thing you can do to cope with the stress of moving to a new house and a new home is to ask for help. Let other people help you with the boxes and other tasks. You're not alone, and preparing a move with your friends and family can also be fun.
