3 things to do when you feel pain from your period

Hi everyone! My content calendar had a different post planned for today, but this week gave me the courage to share something personal with you.

Today's post is the third of the 3 things to do when series that spontaneously born on this blog and you guys love. This week I'm ko from my period, which hit me worse than in other months. I don't know if it's the hot weather, the stress, or something else. I have so much to do, but I have to pause everything because my body can't make it. And since I thought I was not alone in this situation, I want to share 3 things I do when I feel pain from my period.

My period has been painful but has been a bit more manageable over the last ten years. I tried everything I could to get a painless period, but it's not possible, so I have to take extra care of myself during this week of the month. From what I eat to how much sleep I have, I indulge more because my body and mind live a hormonal rollercoaster every month. I managed to live this week of the month at the minimum pace, but these 3 things I do every month help me a lot.

Find a comfortable position.

Whenever I have my period, my back and my belly are super painful, so I need to find a comfortable position to get them some rest. Usually, my favorite is in bed, over my shoulder, like the fetal position, with something between my leg. This way is the only one I can fall asleep during the night, don't stain my bedsheets, and feel some release in my belly and back.

If I need it, I ask my boyfriend for a gentle back massage to stimulate circulation.

Extra body care

My period makes me so weak that I can barely walk sometimes. So, it's crucial to take extra body care. First, I take supplements and a bit more not-refined sugar than usual to feel more energy to cope during the day. Then, I stay away from hot places because my blood pressure is weak. So, it's super important to keep hydrated with cool water and lots of greens.

Last but not least, I pause all of my workouts and take some rest during my period. I learned that rest is a crucial part of the workout, so balancing it with the exercises is essential. That's why my period days are all rest days.

Extra care for my mind

Oh, my mind! My hormones are so crazy! They take over my mind within seconds, and I start feeling a fool mix of emotions. I don't know if it happens to you too, but my mind starts to go crazy the week before my period with a lot of craves. Then, during the actual period, I feel so sad and confused. I want to cry, to leave for far destinations, to hide from everybody, and I feel like I can't cope with anything. It's nuts. However, it's better than the first years.

I learned how to deal with these feelings; I know they are temporary, but I need to cope with them anyway. That's why I take extra care of my mind too. How? If I crave something to eat, I indulge; if I want to cry, I do. I try to go with the flow of my emotion without stopping them. Since I started doing it, my body improved because I was also somatizing the emotional pain.

There are no particular products I use to feel better, just a lot of listening to my body and mind's needs. Our body feels everything, and the period is a stressful moment for us, so let's embrace it and don't fight it. Listening and indulging in these needs is a free therapy we can do at home to feel better.
